Intern Training Team

Intern Coordinator – Amanda W. Shapard, CPA

Amanda graduated from Valdosta State University in 2002 with her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and has been the Intern Coordinator since 2010.  Amanda has been an integral part of the intern program for a few years, helping mentor and train 4 interns each year in low income/subsidized housing audits.  In the past year, Amanda has helped institute some positive changes to the intern program such as formally documenting the roles and responsibilities of the interns, posting this information on the H&G website, and establishing a wrap-up evaluation of the interns.  Amanda has enjoyed getting acquainted with the accounting professors and Beta Alpha Psi and looks forward to working with VSU and the new interns in the coming year.

Accounting Work

Amanda has been on the subsidized housing audit team for 9 years and is currently the Subsidized Housing Audit Manager, responsible for training new team members on the various programs associated with these audits.  In addition to her tax and audit work, she is a Certified Quickbooks Pro Advisor and she trains clients on how to use Quickbooks.

Intern Trainer – Troy D. Newham, CPA

Troy Newham graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mercer University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a double Major in Accounting and Finance.  Troy was made Director of Training in 2010.  He has been involved with the intern program since its inception in 2008.  Troy currently handles the development and implementation of the training programs and instructional materials.

Accounting Work

Troy has been at Henderson & Godbee, LLP since January 2002 and specializes in tax preparation.  Troy has significant experience in tax and accounting research.  In addition to developing the training programs, Troy has also been responsible for developing many of the procedures, best practices, and proprietary tools used by Henderson & Godbee, LLP
